Install MetaTrader 5 and the HybridTrader Expert Advisor on Mac

You will need:

• A Mac computer
• The MetaTrader 5 installer — only if you do not already have MetaTrader 5 installed
• The HybridTrader Mac download (HybridTrader_Journal_Sync_MacOSX.zip). Inside it you must see HybridTrader_Journal_Sync_MacOSX.ex5 — that is the only Mac build you may use (see Part 2).
• Your HybridTrader Journal key (or other details the team gives you), if requested during setup (see the main guide — Before you begin)

Mac only — correct Expert Advisor file. On Mac you must use the file named exactly HybridTrader_Journal_Sync_MacOSX.ex5. Do not use any other HybridTrader .ex5 (for example from the Windows download). If your zip does not contain this file, download again using the button at the top of this page. For MetaTrader itself, download only from the official MetaTrader website.

The steps below are only for people who have not installed MetaTrader 5 on this Mac yet.

Step 1: Download MetaTrader 5

1. Open your browser.
2. Go to: metatrader5.com/en/download
3. Find the Mac download option.
4. Click Download MetaTrader 5 for macOS.
5. Wait for the download to finish.

The file should be called MetaTrader5.pkg. It will usually be in your Downloads folder.

Step 2: Open the installer

1. Open your Downloads folder.
2. Double-click MetaTrader5.pkg.
3. Follow the on-screen steps.

You will usually need to click Continue, Agree, then Install. Your Mac may ask for your password. This is normal.

Download the Mac zip using the button at the top of this page, then copy HybridTrader_Journal_Sync_MacOSX.ex5 into MetaTrader 5's Experts folder. The compiled file ends in .ex5 — the name must match exactly.

Step 1: Download the HybridTrader Expert Advisor

1. Click Download at the top of this page and save HybridTrader_Journal_Sync_MacOSX.zip.
2. Double-click the zip to unzip it. You should see HybridTrader_Journal_Sync_MacOSX.ex5. If you see a different .ex5 name, stop — you have the wrong package.
3. Open your Downloads folder and keep the .ex5 file there for the next steps.

Step 2: Open MetaTrader 5

Open MetaTrader 5 on your Mac and wait for it to fully load. The app may look slightly different from normal Mac apps. That is expected.

Step 3: Open the MetaTrader data folder

In MetaTrader 5:

1. Click File at the top of the screen.
2. Click Open Data Folder.

A folder window will open. This folder may look like an older Windows-style folder. That is normal on Mac.

Step 4: Find your Downloads folder from inside MetaTrader

In the folder window:

1. Click My Computer or Computer.
2. Open the Z: drive.
3. Open Users.
4. Open the folder with your Mac username.
5. Open Downloads.

You should now see HybridTrader_Journal_Sync_MacOSX.ex5 in the list.

Step 5: Copy the Expert Advisor file

Right-click HybridTrader_Journal_Sync_MacOSX.ex5, then click Copy. Do not open the file — only copy it.

Step 6: Go back to the MetaTrader data folder

Close the folder window. Go back to MetaTrader 5, click File, then Open Data Folder again. You are now back in the main MetaTrader data folder.

Step 7: Paste the Expert Advisor into the correct folder

In the folder window:

1. Open MQL5.
2. Open Experts.
3. Right-click empty space in the folder, then click Paste.

You should see HybridTrader_Journal_Sync_MacOSX.ex5 inside the Experts folder. The Expert Advisor is now installed. You can close the folder window.

This step matches Section 5in the main Windows guide. MetaTrader blocks outgoing website calls until you add HybridTrader's server address to the allow-list. You only do this once per MetaTrader 5 install on this Mac. Use the exact menu names below.

1. In MetaTrader 5, open Tools → Options. (If a keyboard shortcut is shown in MetaTrader, you can use it — otherwise always use the Tools menu.)
2. Open the Expert Advisors tab.
3. Tick Allow WebRequest for listed URL.
4. Click the + button and add this URL exactly (copy and paste is best):
   https://api.dev.hybridtrader.ai
5. Click OK to save.

These steps are also written in the main guide (Section 5) if you want the same instructions next to the Windows screenshots.

Finish Part 3 first so MetaTrader is allowed to reach HybridTrader. If you attach the Expert Advisor before Part 3, complete Part 3 and then restart MetaTrader or remove and re-attach the Expert Advisor.

Step 1: Refresh Expert Advisors

In MetaTrader 5:

1. Find the Navigator panel on the left side.
2. Find Expert Advisors.
3. Right-click Expert Advisors.
4. Click Refresh.

You should now see HybridTrader_Journal_Sync_MacOSX under Expert Advisors (MetaTrader hides the .ex5 part in the list).

Step 2: Open a chart

Open any trading chart, for example EURUSD. Make sure the chart is visible in the main area of MetaTrader 5.

Step 3: Add the Expert Advisor to the chart

In the Navigator panel, find HybridTrader_Journal_Sync_MacOSX. Click and hold it, drag it onto the chart, then release. The Expert Advisor settings window will open.

Step 4: Confirm the settings

Check the settings you have been given by HybridTrader (see the Configuration section of the main guide), then click OK. The Expert Advisor should now appear on your chart.

When the Expert Advisor is attached, you should see a HybridTrader panel on the chart. It should show something like Monitoring: Active. This means the Expert Advisor is running.

If you sync your trade history, you may also see a message like Synced 3 deal(s) (the number may differ).

MetaTrader 5 was originally built for Windows. On Mac, some menus or text may look slightly rough or old-fashioned. That is normal and does not mean anything is broken.

Expert Advisor file. Always use HybridTrader_Journal_Sync_MacOSX.ex5 on Mac. Do not substitute another HybridTrader .ex5.
